Pop Warner is the only National Youth Sports Organization in America that requires its participants to perform adequately in the classroom before permitting them to play. Proof of satisfactory progress in school is required from all children. A 70% on your child’s year-end report card is the minimum grade point average acceptable to participate in any Pop Warner program.
What if I do not have a 70% grade point average?
We understand that not all student-athletes are able to meet scholastic requirements. If a child does not meet the requirements, your athlete will be required to fill out an Scholastic form (located on www.PopWarner.com under the Little Scholars Tab) and turn in an official progress report (dates of report will be posted when MVPW receives it from Conference).
What if I have a GREAT report card?
Each year, the most academically accomplished Pop Warner kids compete for Academic All-American status. See Below.
All other kids can apply to our own award program outlined below.
NATIONAL LITTLE SCHOLARS ALL-AMERICAN PROGRAM
This program is for children currentlyin 5th grade and above who have maintained a minimum 97% average for the entire 2007-2008 school. Children who wish to apply for this award program must submit the following:
1. A completed 2008 All-American Application and addendum, found online at www.PopWarner.com under the Little Scholars Tab. Do not use outdated forms.
2. The application and addendum must be copied front toback. Nationals will not accept applications that are on separate pages.
3. An ENTIRE ANNUAL copy of your 2007-2008 report card (grades for the entire year). We need to see all the grades for the entire year, the school name, and the date of the report card. If larger than 8½ x 11 then it must be reduced to fit on an 8½ x 11 sheet.
4. Do NOT complete the grade portion of the application. It will result in instant disqualification of your application. The Little Scholars Representative will complete that portion.
5. Lastly, do NOT attach anything to the application. Do not turn in anything but the report card (i.e.: certificates, awards, etc.). Anything turned in with the application will be discarded.
If you think your child may qualify for this National Program please contact me so I can discuss the application process with you and/or answer any questions you may have.
We hope to see many applications this year.
MVPW LITTLE SCHOLARS PROGRAM
What is a MVPW Scholar Athlete Award?
Our league is the only league in our Conference to have developed our own scholastic award program. Last year we had our 5th Annual Awards Ceremony and presented awards and prizes to over 450 children who obtained outstanding marks in both academics and citizenship on their entire year report cards. Outstanding job to all qualifying athletes!!!!
What do I need to do?
All you need to do is turn in your entire year report card, we will do the rest! This year both football and cheer will be asked to turn in two copies of their entire year report card at paperwork turn-in night. One copy will go to registration for your team file, and the other will go to the Award Program Director.
Character Counts!
We are looking to reward children who excel not only in their academic performance, but also those who exhibit exceptional classroom behavior, leadership qualities, consistent participation, and those who are positive role models to their peers as determined by teacher’s comments on the report card.
How can my child qualify?
MVPW Scholar Athlete Qualifications:
1. Must have a 90.0% or better G.P.A. (per grade conversion schematic); AND
2. Must have exceptional citizenship/behavior grades; AND
3. Must turn in copies of your report card at paperwork turn-in. In our League, children come from several different school districts, which means we have many different grading scales. Most of our elementary schools use the 4-3-2-1 grading scale, but some use A-B-C-D, and yet others use O-S-N or other such scales. As a reference point, obtaining all “3’s” on a report card is considered “at grade level”, whereas all “4’s” is considered “above average” (more like an A on other scales) therefore the child with 4’s would receive the highest award. We have a system that accurately converts all the grading systems into one uniform scale so we can determine eligibility for each award.
Note: In the event that the number of qualifying recipients exceeds the number of prizes ordered for that season, the children with the highest academic and highest citizenship marks for that age/grade category will receive the award. All additional qualifying children will receive the next lowest award.
